Karaoke FAQ

What`s the difference between CD+G & DVD?
These are the two main different formats which Karaoke discs are made. CD+G is by far the most popular format for Karaoke in the UK. When buying CD+G discs please make sure your Player is compatible with the CD+G format (most normal DVD Players will not play CD+G discs).
What is a CD+G Karaoke Disc?
CD+G stands for Compact Disc + Graphics (also known CDG or CD+Graphics). A CD+G is a compact disc with graphics in addition to the audio track found on a normal music CD. CD+G discs have on screen lyrics over a blue or plain background. They play on CD+G players. Most Karaoke machines eg: Arbiter, Singing Machine, Goodmans, Sunfly, VocoPro etc. use these discs. Some VCD & DVD Players will also play them. They will also play on a normal CD player for use as backing tracks but of course you don`t get any on screen lyrics.
What is a DVD Karaoke Disc?
DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc. Most DVD Karaoke discs have on screen lyrics over a blue or plain background. Some do have a MTV type video in the background as well. They only play on DVD players. Most home Karaoke Machines Do Not play them.
What is a custom Karaoke disc?
If you want specific songs that you can’t find on ready-made discs (without having to buy lots of discs), have a disc custom made with just the songs you want. Now the choice is yours, you can use CustomBurn, Sunfly or Selectatrack to custom make your own Karaoke disc, in either CD+G or DVD format & have it delivered to your door.
What`s the difference between a backing track & Karaoke?
A Karaoke track is a re-creation of the original song, minus just the lead singer(s). Most include the backing vocals that were on the original version. A backing track is usually just an instrumental version without any vocals at all. Many singers & solo artists do use Karaoke discs as backing tracks, but please make sure that backing vocals are ok for you before ordering.
How Can I create my own custom Karaoke disc?
Just click the Custom Burn or Selectratrack links in the Karaoke section where you can create your very own custom Karaoke disc.
Can I download Karaoke tracks?
Yes, just click the Downloads link in the Karaoke section to visit Selectatrack, Custom burn, Sunfly or Karaoke CC where you can instantly download tracks in MP3+G format. There is also some free software that allows you to play your track on your PC, with on screen lyrics. Alternatively click the iKO link to visit the iKO Store, where you can download karaoke videos for your iPod or iPhone.
Are Karaoke tracks by Original Artists?
99.9% of Karaoke discs do not feature the original artists but are faithful re-creations using session musicians. There are a few that have been made that do use the original backings (Motown & Disney etc) but this is rare as getting access to the original master & re-mixing the track less the Lead Vocals would be impractical & expensive!
Why is the Microphone quiet on my player?
If you having trouble getting the microphone loud enough over the music when using a Karaoke player. 1) Lower the music volume on the player’s remote control to about half way. 2) Turn up the microphone volume on the front of the player to almost full. 3) Then adjust the TV Volume (or Hi-fi) so your singing is loud enough. 4) Now use the music volume on the remote to adjust the music.
Can I buy a hard drive ready loaded with Karaoke tracks?
Not legally is the answer. You can convert the music you own to a digital format for use on a laptop or hard drive, but you must retain the original discs & get permission from the Karaoke manufacturers (as they are not PRS/MCPS recordings). As it is unlikely the manufacturers would give permission, if you were offered a hard drive full of Karaoke tracks then it must be illegally loaded with the content. If you used one in public you would be breaking the law & you would run the risk of having your equipment confiscated, plus you could be prosecuted.
How do I Stop Feedback?
Never an easy one this, speaker position, settings, speakers & microphones are the main culprits. And Karaoke singers that don’t know how to use a microphone, or whisper don’t help! Assuming you have adjusted the mixer to the best settings you can get. You can buy feedback killers, but they can be difficult to set up & you may need one for each microphone. Are you using just 2 speakers? Because you have a lot of sound coming from each, using 4 would help to keep the pressure from each speaker lower, yet have the same total volume. If you can keep the singers behind the speakers that helps as well. Some speakers are often very harsh at higher frequencies & that doesn’t help. Better microphones with more feedback rejection can help (also not having more than on at any time). Overall, it’s a case of getting lot’s of different things just right.

How much is the delivery cost?

Normal costs. Discs. One CD or pack costs £1 if ordering 2 or more we send them post-free in the UK. Equipment orders being delivered to non-mainland UK, offshore islands & outside the UK depends on the destination, please call or email for a price.
Is it safe to order online?
Yes. We only use Google Checkout or PayPal for online payments. This is a fast, secure way to buy from many stores across the web. And we don`t have access to you card details.
I don’t want to pay on line. How can I pay?
Easy. Make your order then go to the checkout where you enter just your name & address (no card details are required) then click next. You will then see the print order button at the bottom of the page. Click this & you can see a copy of your order with the details of how to contact us to pay for your order. Simples!
Why can’t your website work out the postage costs?
Because we sell such a large range of products of different sizes, weights & prices, each order is different. For most orders we can provide free postage, but some we can’t. For example, Fog fluid may only cost £15 but it would cost over £10 to send on it’s own! A 95p jack plug would cost £1.20p to send on its own, a lamp costing £7.50 would cost £3 postage alone, but if it was ordered with a CD player & a mixer, the total order would be free. That`s why we let you choose the postage option at checkout.
